This is a book I had to read for school. It's really teen oriented and deals with abuse a lot so it's kind of intense...still it's a very good story. It centers around a boy named Nick who beat up his girlfriend "accidentally". At the beginning you find yourself in the present with him in the court then he is assigned by the judge to write down what happened in a journal as punishment. This is when you start in the past. You follow it through until the ending which I shall not spoil when he realizes what happened. It's a very very good book. Personally I find Nick is a victim of how he was raised, not of his own anger. You'll see
